MEWAK is a women organisation under the umbrella of the Church of God 7 th Day in Kenya,
East Africa. Married, and widowed women combine together to form this active group which helps the church in various ways.
During biblical festivals, they meet to discuss issues affecting their daily lives. They advise and uplift each other to strengthen themselves so that they can keep on clinging to the faith until they achieve their ultimate goal (eternal life). It is during this time that young mothers benefit from the older women’s advice on how they are supposed to love their husbands and children as per the Bible teachings.
This year’s Passover celebrations recorded a very level of attendance. Ladies seemed very relaxed in their meeting, eager to learn from each other and go back to their villages equipped with strength and knowledge on how they will continue serving God of Israel until they meet again during the next festival.
Additionally, they discussed about the projects that they will undertake in their home churches and collectively for the Headquarter (Nairobi, Kenya). The projects are different;
some are executed immediately while others are long term. They agree on how much money to contribute and this makes them do it both happily and willingly. Their national committee organises and keeps an updated record of contribution that can be reviewed easily during the next major feast. The festivals are held in all feast centres in Kenya and, therefore, the national committee arrange how to reach women in all the centres. During each feast, three centres are to be visited and they are selected through casting of lots.
The same procedure is applied while choosing officials mandated to visit the centres. In a feast, centres different from the ones visited previously are chosen. During this year’s Passover, the villages picked were Murang’a , Gatero and Nairobi. Each was visited by two national officials: Waruguru Kaloki and Njeri Mukuha visited Gatero, Mrs Gitehi Giathi and Wanja Wahome visited Murang’a, while Wanjiku Muchichu and Mrs Muriithi mwaura were stationed in Nairobi.
The national officials were sent to meet the village committees; train them on how to lead their members and also to interact with the members and answer questions arising from them. Each group did a good job and brought a satisfying report. At the end of the feast, an organisation called Family Health Options from Kenya which offers free cervical cancer screening offered free service to women. The medical personnel were shocked to find that, many women were not affected contrary to what they find in other groups. But all the glory be to Adonai God of Israel who has taken care for these women. Only few trivial cases were detected and the affected were advised accordingly.
Everything ended well and women were satisfied with what took place during the festival. They declared to stand firm in faith and continue edifying the Church. May Elohim bless MEWAK and their families.
