Train up a child in the way s/he should go and s/he will never depart from it?. Proverbs 22:6.
The modern-day society has been horror struck by the appalling lifestyles its teenagers are leading. In fact, child care specialists seem to have lost control of the situation and finger pointing has become the order of the day with parents blaming teachers and teachers unsure of what to do due to the stringent regulations imposed by authorities on discipline issues. As the two oxen continue to lock horns, the victim on the receiving end is definitely the child whose innocence is constantly being ripped by the ruthless claws of a ferocious world. The national migraine is further intensified by ridiculous school curriculums which tend to overemphasize on academic excellence not giving much attention on mannerisms thus turning a blind eye on the fact that manners maketh a man.
This being the current situation, nothing should be more applauded than a deliberate attempt to shield blooming youngsters from plunging into the murky pool of ungodliness, antisocialism, inhumanity and abhorrence. When the rest seem to be loosening their grip on the child, The Church of God 7th Day has decided to intensify measures to curb this prevailing predicament. It's a norm for all teens all over Kenya to converge at The Church's headquarters at the end of the year for one week for mentorship, counseling and holistic training to nourish them morally, emotionally and spiritually. The seminar, popularly known as MEYO (medium youth organization) Camp has highly been acclaimed by its alumni most of whom confess that it helped them shape their adulthood. This follows the indisputable fact that teen age is the most sensitive since it is the transition stage from childhood to adulthood.
This year will go down in record for having experienced the highest influx of teenagers for MEYO camp. Hundreds of teens converged at Nairobi early this week with a great yearn to have their lives shaped desirably. The teens have been undergoing rigorous training to impart pleasant personalities in them. After considerable learning, they undertake a test, mostly on Thursdays, and the best are handsomely rewarded during the camp?s climax day-Saturday. The climax day is the most remarkable since the teens showcase special talents in music, verses, narratives and drama. Who can miss such a fete? The Church deploys professionals to ensure that by the time the camp is over, all participants are maximally edified. There are no restrictions as to who should attend; doors are open for all teens from all walks of life with no charges other than a little amount of not more than ten dollars (Kshs. 1000 only) for food. After a teen has successfully completed his/her training, they are promoted to the next Church social unit-COGYOK- which binds all youths from nineteen years onwards.
Special thanks to Elohim who endowed this divine revelation to the overseer, pastor Karanja to start such a redeeming forum. More gratitude to all MEYO teachers who make this endeavor a great success. Above all, all teens who attend are our most esteemed; you have made us soar higher than we would have ever dreamt. We anticipate to experience more than 150% attendance next year so if you missed this year make a date with us next year cause things seem to be getting more juicy. We won't disappoint; we promise!
