Despite the dark cloud that hovers, a number of lessons can be derived from this unfortunate occurrence.

The news about grandma’s demise cut across many hearts like a sharp dagger knowing that she is finally gone for good to the cruel land that never has enough. The only solace that anyone that knew her can find is the notion that granny will not easily be forgotten as her life was by itself a complete legacy. She immensely impacted on lives that interacted with her for the nearly a full century (96 years) that she lived. Not only was she adored for her unending benevolence but was an epitome of steadfastness in faith and self yielding for the ministry. As I searched my memory, I recalled how the ever-radiant lady taught many how to become better, loving and dedicated, and I cannot help but preach the same gospel to the latter.

Granny was a fervent member of The Church of God 7th Day from as early as 1970, something that qualifies her for the crown of a heroine and a veteran! Many did not know her name as they fondly called her granny, both adults and children. Esther Wairimu Kamau or Mother to Wahome, her real name, will be learnt by many only after her departure. She was a darling to many - from her home town to the entire church that she attended every Shabbat. Her strong faith and affinity for integrity naturally endeared her to even nonbelievers for she could be counted on due to her undying accountability.

Despite the dark cloud that hovers, a number of lessons can be derived from this unfortunate occurrence. Firstly is the notion that we will all succumb to death but the million-dollar question is, how prepared shall we be? Granny was well prepared for a rest awaiting the return of Yahshua to be raised from the dead (1 Thess 4:16,17); how well prepared are you? Secondly is that we should not be less mindful of the words we shall leave on the lips of those we shall leave behind. Just like Dorcas/Tabitha of the Bible who was raised by Peter because of her good deeds (Acts 9:36-42), Granny left an impeccable legacy that will have her name linger on the lips of many. Finally, will our demise elicit a celebration for a life well lived or bring a relief for exiting the earth after a long time of nagging?

As we ponder over the above, let us support and pray for the bereaved who are planning for the burial on Thursday, May 7th, 2018 at Murang'a.
