Did you know that Quitale, presently known as Kitale, started as a relay centre for the slave route from Uganda to Tanzania? Slaves would be captured and quartered in Quitale before being transported for "export" as if they were a cash crop. Normal humans would be treated with the utmost cruelty while being shipped in stuffy and overcrowded ships. The ill treatment demanded that only the strongest should survive. Oh! I don't intend to arouse bitterness in sane minds by disturbing already healed minds but before I toss my story, let me highlight a few things that would happen during such voyages as I recall from my high school History studies.
Did you know that before slave trade was stopped about TEN million slaves had died? Well, I thought you should know. The slaves' legs would be chained together so close almost to the extent that they could not move. They were cruelly flogged, some until death. Though they would be given enough to eat, they fed on imbalanced meals like wild herbivores. In case they fell ill, they could not be attended to. This, thought their masters, was a good elimination method because they were only interested with the hardy and strong slaves. Why had it to be the Black Africans? Just because they were considered strong casual labourers and more immune to tropical diseases than other races.
Before you either sympathise with the innocent slaves or be exasperated by the ruthless slave traders, allow me to point out something that you might not have realised. Had you noticed that I have been discussing physical slavery only? There's still another form of slavery that the present Kitale could be experiencing: spiritual slavery. This is whereby innocent people are subjected to emotional, social and psychological torture by powers beyond their control. They are chained in wickedness, yoked in ungodliness and handcuffed in transgressions hence rendered helpless in their souls.
For this particular reason, the Church of God, 7th day, has organised a breathtaking outreach from 13th to 16th of August, 2015 at Posta, Kitale town where we will be bringing you the third angel's message, praying for the sick and generally interceding for the area. Come expecting to be blessed. See you there!!
